THE IRISH TIMES WROTE OF SOKOLOV IN 1980

"......a sculptor with traditional roots. His main preoccupation is with the human torso, male and female. One example has the abruptness of a Greek kouros, another the more sensuous beauty of a classical renaissance nude; others smack of something more primitive....This sounds as if he is an artist with conflicting styles; but in fact, this wide range of interests and influences are absorbed into a modern classical-type style. This is totally involved with the quality and weight and texture of the stone with which he works, and shaped by the emotional sympathy of the sculptor at his work....half- humorous, half reserved...most successful...sumptuous...in general, Sokolov uses limestone, and with austerity, varying the texture of the surface, which can be rough cut or polished.....one respects his diffidence, just as he respects the classical approach, because this is how he disciplines what might tend to become popular, or perhaps over emotional. Indeed it is the dichotomy between the classical and the personal which gives Sokolov's sculpture its presence. "
